Be sure to join us for our August Meeting! We will be honored to have award-winning journalist, photographer, and storyteller LYNN OLDSHUE share with us.
Lynn Oldshue lives in Fairhope, Alabama, with her husband, John. She grew up on a catfish farm outside Yazoo City, Mississippi.
For the last decade, Lynn has taken thousands of photographs for stories for Our Southern Souls—a blog that started with listening to the stories of bus riders in Mobile. Over time, Souls has grown into two books and thousands of interviews across the South. Lynn started out trying to become a writer, but photography became an essential part of her work. Taking pictures became a way to pay more attention to the real world.
Alongside Our Southern Souls, she writes for Lagniappe newspaper, Mobile Bay Magazine, and reports for Alabama Public Radio. She just started as a video field producer for Spanning Alabama on the Alabama Weather Network, sharing stories about the good things happening across our state. Photography is a big part of this, too.
For Lynn, storytelling and photography are about connection. They help us find common ground and break down the invisible walls that keep us from understanding each other.
SHARE to INVITE your photographer friends! We'll see you at Dahlgren Hall in Fairhope, 6:30pm!
